Two arrested for beating to death a labourer during a drunken brawl near Saravanampatti

The police have arrested Mohanraj of Coimbatore and Saravanan of the Nilgiris for beating to death a labourer over a dispute over drinking liquor near Saravanampatti.



Coimbatore: Venkatesh (53), a resident of Ganapathi Anna Nagar in Coimbatore. He was a labourer and was living separately from his wife due to differences of opinion.

In this situation, he sat with some people near the town health centre in the area after work on the night of 3.11.2022 and consumed liquor.

The next day, Venkatesh was found dead. Seeing this, the sanitation workers who went to work there were shocked. Following this, they informed Saravanampatti police about the incident.

Based on the information, the police reached the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Coimbatore government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case in connection with the murder and were investigating.

Mohanraj (26), a resident of Nanjundapuram in Coimbatore and Saravanan (19) of Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, were arrested and interrogated.

According to the investigation, the two were currently staying on the side of the road in Ganapathi area and were working as labourers.On the day of the incident, when Venkatesh was drinking alcohol along with him, the two got angry over a dispute and attacked Venkatesh with sticks and stones. He was seriously injured in the incident and died.

Following this, the police arrested the two and produced them in court and sent them to jail.
