Sri Ramakrishna Institute Of Oncology and Research launches e-book on cancer.


World Cancer Day is a chance to reflect on what you can do, make a pledge and take action. Whatever you chose to do ‘We can. I can make a difference to the fight against cancer. Taking place under the tagline ‘We can. I can’ make a difference, World Cancer Day 2017 will explore how everyone- as a collective group or as individuals can do their part to reduce the global burden of cancer.



Today, 4 February on World Cancer Day, the Sri Ramakrishna Institute Of Oncology and Research (SRIOR) in a bid to spread the awareness about this killer disease launched e-books in English and Tamil that can be downloaded for free on the iOS and Android platforms.

Addressing the gathering at the launch programme, R. Vijayakumar, Managing Trustee said “The e-books not only speak about early detection but also provides a lot of information and scopes for prevention of cancer which is also another main stream factor in bringing down the burden of cancers. SRIOR, has been focusing this for the past 13 years by hosting more than 1,500 awareness activities, there by proudly being the largest awareness activity done in the country. So, we invite more people to support, participate and acquire knowledge about cancer prevention and pass it on to others, there by join us in the crusade against cancer.” Vijayakumar said.

The e-books can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store or Apple Store. Users can type ‘Cancer Awareness Dr Guhan, select the language of the app and download it. The app once downloaded can be flipped across like an e-book.

“It has been !3-years since we started this department in our hospital and year after year, we host two to three such functions to spread the necessary awareness about cancer. This year is special for all of us as we have just launched our e-book on cancer. We are getting ready to inaugurate our multi-speciality hospital this May. This 240-bed hospital is being constructed at an investment of rupees 200-crores. This new block will be equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology.”

“Currently, we are also servicing international patients. When this new block is declared open, we are hoping to serve at least 200 international patients on a monthly basis. Our hospital has a tie-up with about 17 insurance companies in India and we are also in a tie-up with several international insurance companies. Coimbatore is known as a medical destination next to Chennai. We lack air connectivity. With better air connectivity, Coimbatore will be on par with Chennai when it comes to offering medical services.” Vijayakumar said.

Dr Sukumar Dean of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research Dr Karthikesh, Surgical Oncologist SRIOR Coimbatore, heads of various departments, students medical and non-medical staff were present during this launch function.
