The 2017 Union Budget, presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday, 1st February, 2017. Following the budget presentation, economists, business entities, organisations and political leaders across the country have been registering their thoughts on the budget under various perspectives.
Joining this bench, the PG Department of Social Work (MSW) of Sri Krishna Arts and Science College (SKASC), Coimbatore held a discussion session on the budget presentation.
The students of MSW shared their perspectives, pros and cons of the budget. The most attracted portions of the budget was the strings attached on the donations received by the political parties. Rs.2,000/- per person as cash payment and anything more than that could be done through other modes of payments like cheque or digital mode, LPG gas reduced by 2.5%, introduction of cashless transactions in railway tickets, Single page income tax return filing form and tax liability at 5% from 2.5 lac to 5 lakh.

Total cashless transactions, many youth related programmes, promoting research and development, modern agriculture, encouragement to start up schemes etc. promotion of public sector enterprises, addressing fiscal management etc. are some of the expectations put-forth by the students during the session.

Pro's:
Alternative steps taken to address the setbacks of demonetization, emphasis on cashless transactions, focus on digital transactions, electricity for all villages in the nation by 1st April, 2017, 1.5 lac villages get broadband connections, combination of both railway along with the general budgets for the very first time, were all acknowledged as 'appreciable' by the students.
From education point of view, the students pointed out the following reasons such as reform in UGC, more autonomy to colleges and institutions, innovations for school education, new centre for conducting common entrance examinations, extension of Pradhan Mantri Kausal Kendras to 600 districts, 100 International skill centres to be started off.
Farming:
Protection against natural calamities in farming sectors, increased allocation of sum to farmers with extended interest waivers, dairy processing infrastructure, rural, youth, social investments towards welfare programmes, loan payment periods extended from 15 years to 20 years in Pradhan Mandri Awas Yojana.
