Irked over 'money norms' of ECI traders call for bandh in Salem

Small and medium entrepreneurs and traders in the district would on Friday hold a bandh in protest against Election Commission of India (ECI) taking a stern action against the people carrying more than 50, 000 cash without any document to prove the source of money. The traders and entrepreneurs said they would down the shutters of their shops on Friday.

Every shops, including grocery shops, tea stalls, hotels and other essential commodities shops, would be closed in the district on Friday. Business to the tune of nearly 10 crore will be hit because of the bandh, sources said.

Speaking to reporters, the general secretary of All Merchant's Association, A Jayaseelan, said the law introduced in the run-up to the state assembly polls to check the illegal flow of money to bribe voters has hit the small and medium entrepreneurs and traders in the district very badly.
