PM Modi to launch Purvanchal expressway in UP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day tour of Eastern UP and will launch developmental projects in Azamgarh, Mirzapur and his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day tour of Eastern UP and will launch developmental projects in Azamgarh, Mirzapur and his parliamentary constituency Varanasi.

In Azamgarh, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of 340 kms long Purvanchal expressway, the constituency represented by Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, State BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey and other prominent party leaders will also attend the event.

However, the Samajwadi Party workers staged a protest outside the district collectorate on Thursday accusing BJP of relaunching the expressway project which was already flagged off by Akhilesh Yadav during his government in December 2016.

Akhilesh is also addressing a press conference at Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday morning and is expected to launch a scathing attack on the BJP.

The six lane expressway from Lucknow to Ghazipur will be constructed at a cost of Rs 23,000 crores.

After Azamgarh, PM Modi will straight away head to Varanasi where he will inaugrate development project worth Rs 900 crores.

The city gas distribution project and Varanasi-Ballia EMU trains are the major projects that will be inaugurated by him. He will also lay the foundation stone of several projects under Smart City and Namami Gange Mission.

On July 15, PM will be visiting Mirzapur to dedicate the Bansagar canal project and will also lay foundation stone of the Mirzapur medical college.

The Mirzapur constituency is represented by Apna Dal(S) chief and Union Minister Anupriya Patel, an ally of BJP in both centre and the state .

Speaking to India Today over the issue of Purvanchal expressway, SP National Spokesperson Sunil Sajan said," After UP CM Yogi Adityanath, now PM Modi has started launching projects started by Akhilesh Yadav. This clearly shows that BJP has done no development and is completely visionless."

Reacting to Samajwadi Party's allegations, UP BJP spokesperson Chandramohan said," Akhilesh Yadav is jittery and is trying to hide his incompetence by unnecessarily blaming our party.

If foundation stone of Purvanchal expressway was laid in 2016 then where is the expressway? Lucknow-Agra expressway and metro project both were left incomplete by his government and is now being completed by us systematically," he added.
