The mishap led to 10-minute shutdown of the runway as cleaning crews were pressed into service to clear the runway of debris.
According to an airport spokesperson, a Qatar Airways flight missed the runway centre lights due to heavy rains in Kerala and damaged a few edge lights.
All passengers and crew on board the Doha-Kochi flight, numbered QR 516, are safe and the damage to the runway lights was minor.
The incident took place at around 2:50 am. The airport's safety wing will be investigating the incident.
