Under Phase 2, 143 canteens will be inaugurated at 85 locations by August.

It was the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) founder Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) who introduced the scheme of Rs 2 per kg rice to feed the poor, and now, party President and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has introduced this scheme. Under this scheme, poor can get all three meals of a day for as less as Rs 15, said Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, P. Narayana.
