At least six people were killed in North and Northeast India due to weather-related incidents in the past 24 hours.

In Jammu and Kashmir, three people were killed and nearly a dozen houses were damaged in rain-related incidents in different districts of the Jammu region. Officials said 28 cattle also perished in the heavy rains in different districts, especially in the areas in the Chenab Valley over the past three days.

Heavy rains also prompted authorities to issue flood alerts as Jhelum river was flowing above the danger level.

The bad weather also played spoilsport for the Amarnath Yatra which remained suspended for hours. Schools across the Kashmir valley were closed on Saturday in view of the inclement weather.

However, on Sunday morning weather in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions improved. The water level in Jhelum has receded and the Amarnath Yatra resumed.
