Bengaluru: The Bellandur lake of Bengaluru which was in the news in recent times for civic negligence over rising pollution level, endangering the lives of citizens. In its latest development, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) appointed panel in its report has said that the lake has become the largest septic tank.

The report details how the construction debris and sewerage water has ruined the natural water body. It further remarked that the state government and its agencies have miserably failed to discharge their obligations to the society and their duties.
Furthermore, it claimed that not even one millilitre of clean water is available in the lake. The empanelled members submitted the report on May 31 to the NGT. Criticising the government the report has stated that the lake has shrunk due to the dumping of municipal waste and construction waste which has led to the spread of hydrophytes and microphytes in the waters for pollution in the Bellandur Lake.
In April last month, the NGT also disapproved the report submitted by the state government over various measures taken to control the pollution. The court called the report as incorrect and misleading.
The state report mentioned that Bellandur lake had caught fire due to the toxic gas 12 times since the first fire incident reported in August 2016.
