New Delhi:  Mohit Goel, the founder of Ringing Bells that offered 'Freedom 251' has been arrested by the Delhi Police. According to a tweet by ANI, few others have also been arrested along with Goel.  More details on the same are awaited.

'Freedom 251' was world's cheapest smartphone by Ringing Bells, which was a little-known company. The firm claimed that about 30,000 people had paid for booking the phone and over 7 crore people had registered for it. However, soon after, it ran into controversy, with some alleging it was like Ponzi scheme.

Goel, the Director of Noida-based company Ringing Bells had announced Freedom 251 smartphones at an astonishingly low price of Rs 251 per piece. However, due to a massive response for the cheapest Freedom 251 mobile buyers, the website of the company crashed during a two-day sale. With this, the company fell a prey to accusations.

Last year in February, he was detained in Ghaziabad on allegations of fraud.  According to a report by PTI, Ringing Bells had also come under the scanner of Excise and Income Tax Departments amid debate over the feasibility of a 3G-enabled handset for Rs 251.
