Rahul is an arrogant naamdaar, Modi says on Congress president's ready to be PM remark

A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that he was ready to be the next prime minister of the country in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a frontal attack on the Opposition leader calling him "arrogant naamdaar".

A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that he was ready to be the next prime minister of the country in 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a frontal attack on the Opposition leader calling him "arrogant naamdaar". PM Modi said that declaring himself as the next prime minister, Rahul Gandhi betrayed his disregard for democracy.

Addressing an election rally at Kolar in Karnataka, PM Modi said, "Yesterday someone made an important declaration. He said, "I am going to be PM!" He came like those bullies, barging his way ahead when there are others who have many years of experience. How can someone just declare himself as the PM? This is simply nothing but arrogance."

Responding to a question if he would be the prime minister in 2019 if the Congress emerges as the single largest party, Rahul Gandhi had said, "Yes, why not."

Modi reacted to the statement saying, "To remove Modi, big meetings are being held. How will the big leaders, who attend these meetings react to this sudden announcement by one 'Naamdaar' that he is going to be the prime minister."

The prime minister further said, "The Congress is only interested in deals. I am not saying this. It is a Congress MP and former chief minister (of Karnataka) Veerappa Moily who said this. When tickets were sold, he said that Congress will have to solve their 'money problem' and also blamed PWD Minister for deal-making."
