Coimbatore : Following the tragic incident at Nadukaatupatti in Trichy where a two-year-old boy Sujith Wilson has been battling for life for over three days, after he slipped into a abandoned borewell pit, District Collector K. Rajamani on Monday here announced that legal action will be initiated, if concerned people who dig borewells leave them in an open or abandoned state.

Rajamani on Monday here announced that legal action will be initiated, if concerned people who dig borewells leave them in an open or abandoned state.
In a press release from the district administration on Monday, Collector K.Rajamani reitrated the GO that directs proper closure of borewells. And, covering of unused borewells with concrete slabs.
District Collector had directed the City Commissioner, Municipal Commissioners, Executive Officers and Block Development Officers to conduct inspections at government offices and residential areas in this regard to identify abandoned borewells.
The Collector also notified that public can report of abandoned or uncovered borewells to the district administration by dialing toll-free number 1800-599-600.
In another release, Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar has warned that according to the Borewells regulation act 2015, leaving unused borewells without covering them properly is a crime and criminal cases would be slapped on people who fail to do so. Commissioner also mentioned that the residents who drill borewells without the consent of CCMC shall be punished.
