New Honda Amaze, the first facelift for the sub-compact sedan, is all set to be launched in India today. Amaze was an instant success since its launch in India in April, 2013; in fact, Honda managed to 1 lakh units of the sedan within 16 month of its launch in the country. Yet, the lack of any updates over the last 3 years and the influx of competitors had finally started to affect its sales: 4,069 units of the Honda Amaze were retailed in February, 2016.
The new Amaze now gets a handful of cosmetic updates and new equipment though it will continue to come powered by the same engine options as the current model. One must note that the carmaker claims that the engines, however, have been tuned for improved fuel-efficiency.
Moving on to changes, the new Honda Amaze sports a new chrome grille, revised bumpers, and new fog-lamp enclosures among other updates. Inside, it will receive a new dashboard, an instrument cluster that seems to have been borrowed from the Honda Jazz, new AC vents, touchscreen AVN system, automatic climate control, etc..
Engine options will be carried over from the existing model: 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor. While the petrol engine puts out 87bhp and 109Nm of peak torque, the diesel develops 99bhp along with 200Nm of torque. Choice for transmission will include a 5-speed manual unit and an automatic gearbox.
Factoring in the updates and the 2016 Union Budget, expect the new Honda Amaze's price to go up by nearly 18,000 - 20,000.
