Artisanopolis is a futuristic floating
city project entirely built on the surfaces of water bodies. Joe
Quirk, the spokesman for The Seasteading Institute, the non-profit
think tank working on the ambitious project, says that the city
itself will be floating on the protected waters of the host nation,
which will trade political autonomy for economic, social and
environmental benefits.
Designed by DeltaSync, a pioneer in the water-based urban development, Artisanopolis will feature platforms made of reinforced concrete, shaped in the form of squares and pentagons 50 meters in size, which can be rearranged according to city's needs. The city will be entirely powered by sustainable renewable energy sources and will operate totally off the grid. The first phase of the project hopes to accommodate 750 residents and will cost less than $500 a square feet in construction costs. The Seasteading Institute is in talks with several coastal nations and hopes to close the deals sooner than we think.
