Mathesh, 21, who was arrested in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old man in Kinathukadavu, Coimbatore district, has been detained under the Goondas Act following a recommendation from the district police.
Coimbatore: Mathesh, 21, was arrested by the Kinathukadavu Police in connection with the murder of Ashwin, 22, a resident of Sikkalampalayam near Pollachi, on August 6. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.
Considering his alleged involvement in activities prejudicial to the maintenance of public order and law and order, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan K. Reddy recommended his detention under the Goondas Act.
Based on the recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar issued the detention order.
The case had sent shock waves after it emerged that the accused, along with a juvenile who was also booked in connection with the case, had posed for selfies and videos with the victim and posted them on social media.
