Tiruppur: Surya, a resident of Tiruppur, had been working as a conductor in a private bus and had recently secured a temporary conductor job in a government bus service.
As he was scheduled to report for duty on a government bus to Thoravalur at 4 a.m., he arrived at the bus stand the previous night. On noticing a mini-bus belonging to the private company where he had earlier worked, Surya reportedly spread a cloth and slept in front of the parked vehicle.
At around 3.30 a.m., the private bus driver arrived and allegedly moved the bus towards the passenger bay without noticing Surya lying in front of it. The bus wheel ran over him, crushing him to death on the spot.
Tiruppur South Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The death of the young conductor has caused widespread grief among transport workers in the region.
