Nilgiri Mountain Railway Services Hit by Restoration Work; Cancellations Announced for November 2–4

Coimbatore: All three Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) train services have been cancelled on their respective scheduled dates due to ongoing restoration work on railway tracks damaged by landslides, according to an announcement issued by the Salem Division of Southern Railway.
Recent heavy rains triggered landslides and uprooted trees at several locations in the Nilgiris, disrupting both rail and road connectivity and affecting train and vehicular movement. Restoration work is under way to remove boulders, clear debris and repair the damaged road and railway stretches.
Railway personnel are engaged in restoration work despite the challenges posed by the difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions. However, owing to the extensive nature of the obstructions, the work has not yet been completed.
According to the announcement issued on November 1, Train No. 56136, operating from Mettupalayam to Udagamandalam, and Train No. 56137, operating from Udagamandalam to Mettupalayam, have been cancelled on November 2, 3 and 4.
In addition, Train No. 06172, the Udagamandalam–Mettupalayam Special train, scheduled to operate on November 2, has also been cancelled.
Passengers planning to travel on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway are advised to take note of the cancellations and make alternative travel arrangements.
