As a part of Isha Gramotsavam, India’s biggest rural sports festival, district level Kabaddi matches will be held in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi on September 2nd and September 3rd. Men’s teams winning the state level final will grab a prize money of Rs 5 lakh whereas women’s team winning will take away a prize of Rs 2 lakh.
Swami Nakuja, field coordinator of the Isha Gramotsavam, in an interaction with the media today said, “The 15th Isha Gramotsavam is happening in all South Indian states this year.

Men's volleyball and throwball matches have already started. In Tamil Nadu, we are additionally organising Kabaddi matches. The competitions will be conducted in 3 phases namely district, zonal and state in association with Tamil Nadu Amateur Kabaddi Association.â€
“Players who perform well in different teams at the district level are selected as a team for the zonal level tournaments. The best performing teams at the regional level will qualify for the finals. The Isha Gramotsavam Committee will take care of the food, accommodation and transport expenses of the players from the zonal level matches,†he informed.
District level competitions will be held in all 38 districts. The matches for Tirunelveli District will be held on September 2nd and 3rd at the VUC Indoor Stadium, Palayamkottai. On the same dates, the Thoothukudi district matches will be held at Daruvai Sports Complex, George Road. Similarly, matches will be held on August 26 and 27 at Alantangarai Kabadi Club in Kanyakumari, MSP Velayutha Nadar Lakshmi Thayammal Polytechnic College in Tenkasi and Nadar Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar.
The grand finale of Isha Gramotsavam will be played on Sept 23, in front of the iconic 112-feet Adiyogi with Sadhguru and other special guests facilitating the winning teams.
Isha Outreach, which is organising the Gramotsavam has been recognized as National Sports Promotion Organization ( NSPO ) by the Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs. In the year 2018, Isha Outreach received the “Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar†award from the Hon’ble President of India for Sports Development.
Sports celebrities like Sachin Tendulkar, Olympic medallist Rajavardhan Singh Rathore and Karnam Malleshwari have earlier participated as special guests in the finals of the sports festival. Mithali Raj, PV Sindhu, Virender Sehwag, and Shikhar Dhawan have voiced support for Isha Gramotsavam.
