The Nilgiris: A Duster car coming from Bengaluru to Coonoor suddenly caught fire near a Marappalam on Burliyar Road near the Coonoor police station in the Nilgiris district. Fortunately the occupants of the car fled immediately and no casualties were reported.
Dharmaraj, a resident of Coonoor TTK Road, was driving a Duster coming from Bengaluru towards Coonoor. Suddenly smoke came from the vehicle as he was approaching the Marappalam on Coonoor Mettupalayam Road with his wife and two children.

He immediately stopped the vehicle on the side of the road and got out with his wife and children.

Firefighters and police rushed to the scene, stopped traffic and put out the blaze.

By then the fire was completely burning and the car was completely damaged.

This caused traffic congestion on Coonoor Mettupalayam Road for over an hour.
