The Director General of Police, Sylendra Babu has stated that 3,325 persons have been arrested in Operation Rowdy Hunt mission in Tamil Nadu in 2021 and 1,117 deadly weapons, 23 tonnes of narcotic substances seized from them.
Coimbatore: The Director General of Police, Sylendra Babu has stated that 3,325 persons have been arrested in ‘Operation Rowdy Hunt’ mission in Tamil Nadu and 1,117 deadly weapons, 23 tonnes of narcotic substances have seized from them.
The DGP in his statement said that major events like Jallikattu, Thevar Guru Puja, Emanuel Sekaran Memorial, Madurai Chariot Festival and Tiruvannamalai Deepam were conducted peacefully, although the Tamil Nadu Police has gone through several challenges in the year 2021.
He added that law and order were maintained in the state and action against crime was taken severely. ‘Operation Rowdy Hunt’ was undertaken to prevent caste killings in south Tamil Nadu, revenge clashes and murders between the rowdies in north Tamil Nadu in which 3,325 people have been arrested.
'As many as 1,117 deadly weapons, 23 tonnes of ganja, and 20 kg of heroin have been seized by the anti-narcotics operation.' He then thanked Chief Minister Stalin for the announcement of one day off per week for the police, which was a long pending demand, and also stated that in 2021, 139 police personnel were killed in the second wave of the coronavirus.
He stated that in 2021, 1,500 heirs were posted in the police force, and 1,067 police personnel have been employed in various private institutions. 989 Sub-Inspectors and 10,000 constables have been deployed so far.
The DGP said, “There are several challenges ahead in the upcoming year, including reducing police violence, drug dealing near educational institutions, and uncompromising measures against crime. In view of this, the police will ensure that the public can lead a peaceful life.”
