FSSAI’s clean food certification for Saravanampatti Street food shops

Coimbatore: Lavish restaurants and world-class cuisines are never a matter of talk when it comes to street food. Be it with its taste, the prices, the innumerable varieties and the easy availability makes everyone crave.

FSSAI, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has awarded the ‘Clean Street Food Hub’ tag for the street food outlets in Saravanampatti Coimbatore. District Collector GS Sameeran awarded the certificates to the small and medium street food vendor merchants today in the event. Tamilselvan, Food Safety Officer, Coimbatore, the Collector's Personal Assistant Muthuramalingam, Food Safety Officers Shanmugam, Govindarajan and others were present.

Later, the collector stated that “Hygiene and Safety are the two major parameters considered in the Clean Food Centre. A committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of the District Food safety officer to implement and supervise it. The task force comprised of the other FSOs. The food shops with FSSI certificates were audited separately.

40 stalls out of 112 were audited. These food stalls were then studied on the basis of FDA guidance documents parameters such as food preparation, cooking, water quality, serving, staff hygiene, storing were stipulated by the auditing department. Based on these guidelines, food stalls were inspected and finally awarded certificates with 126 points out of 150. The district collector felicitated the ‘Clean Street Food Hub’ to the street food vendors of Saravanampatti.
