The mandatory RT-PCR move has been implemented to make the public aware of the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coimbatore: The District Corporation has imposed a mandatory RT-PCR test for those not wearing masks in the city, especially in the town bus stand.
With Coimbatore being ravaged by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and daily fresh Covid-19 cases going beyond 4000, extreme preventive efforts of the Corporation had brought down cases to about 100. Regular vaccination drives, restrictions with selected relaxations were implemented.
However, with the public slightly letting down their guard and ignoring the severity of the pandemic that could usher in a third wave, some were found roaming across the city without wearing masks. Hence, the Corporation has imposed the move to mandatorily test people for covid if they were found not wearing masks.
