Attempted robbery at two temples in Coimbatore; Thieves flee as temple alarm goes off
Coimbatore: A gang of three men broke into the Mahaliamman temple owned by the Hindu Temple Department in Kamatchipalayam village, near Somanur, next to Karumathampatti on Thursday morning.
It is reported thatone of the thieves broke the lock and tried to rob the temple with the help of another man, while the other was standing in the doorway of the temple keeping guard. But when the temple alarm sounded, all three men fled from the spot.
The CCTV footage near the temple recorded the robbery attempt. Similarly, at 4.30 am on Thursday, two unidentified men broke the lock of the Black Mariamman temple located at Annur Road, Karumathampatti. The thieves fled when they realised that people near the temple area were awake.
Karumathampatti police have registered a case and investigations are underway to ascertain if the men who attempted both robberies belonged to the same gang.
