Coimbatore: Post 'Covid-19' outbreak, Air India Express has announced weekly flight service from Singapore-Coimbatore and Coimbatore - Chennai During December. The government has only given permission to operate flights in domestic sector thus far.
Ban on the international passenger flight services continues. Flights operated under Vande Bharth mission alone has been given exemption in the international sector. At present Indigo, Spice jet airlines are providing services between Coimbatore and Chennai.
Under this scenario, now Air India Express has announced to resume its flight services to Chennai under the scheduled services and a service to Singapore under Vande Bharath Mission.
This service will be provided between December 2 till December 30 on all Wednesdays.
Flight IX1685 Will depart Singapore at 5:25 pm and would reach Coimbatore at 7:15 pm.
Flight IX1685 would leave Coimbatore at 8:00 pm and will reach Chennai at 9:00 pm.
Aviation sources said, "In spite of the relaxations given under the domestic sector, flight movements has not yet resumed to full swing. This is mainly due to the fear which prevails among the passengers on 'Covid-19' virus spread. Due to this, cancellations of flight services continue to be a routine one witnessed every day.
This new service announced by Air India Express between Coimbatore and Singapore comes under Vande Bharath MIssion and the service to Chennai under scheduled flight service. Depending upon the response from the passengers, this service will be extended further on other days.".
Kongu Global Forum (KGF) Director, D.NandaKumar said, "We welcome the initiative by Air India Express. We also understand the difficulties which the airlines are facing post pandemic outbreak in filling up the seats in flights. We request Air India Express to consider extending weekly flight service which is been announced during December to all days in a week between Coimbatore and Chennai."
