Coimbatore: At the conference that was held in Pollachi on World Coconut day on behalf of the Naam Iyakkam, farmers requested that the Central government must fix the price for 'copra' coconuts at Rs.130/kg.

The Pollachi office of the Naam Iyakkam was inaugurated today on World Coconut day and a conference of coconut farmers was also held. President of the Naam Iyakkam Prabhu Raja chaired the conference and coconut farmers from many areas of the Coimbatore district took part in the conference.

Many requests were placed by the farmers at the conference that included the long pending request of fixing the price of 'copra' coconuts at Rs.130/kg by the Central Government.Other requests such as ensuring the livelihood of farmers and permission to produce toddy for the benefit of the coconut farmers were also placed.

Further, they insisted that the TN government must take action to prevent the alleged adulteration of coconut oil in Kangayam which is affecting the people.

"Failure of action on these requests by the government would bring forth integrated agitations by the coconut farmers", said the Naan Iyakkam President Prabhu Raja.



The Perur Adheenam Maruthachala Adigalar, former Pollachi MP Sukumar, Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi Coimbatore South District Secretary Nithaynandham and many others took part in the conference.
