Coimbatore: Here's more positive news to the people of Coimbatore during this COVID crisis which has brought the World to a grinding halt. According to a statement from the District Collector, K Rajamani, Coimbatore's ESI Hospital stands next to Chennai in Tamil Nadu for quality treatment for COVID patients.

The hospital which is one of the government designated centre for treatment has so far cured 116 patients out of the 141 infected in the district. Patients from Tirupur and Nilgiris are also treated at the hospital. In which, a majority are already discharged.

During a recent inspection at the ESI Hospital in Singanallur here, the District Collector provided essential food items including rice, wheat and cooking oil to the 100 sanitary staff working in the premises.

As per the directives from the Chief Minister and State health Ministry, Corona preventive measures are carried out on war footing in the district. Strict vigil to stop movement of people has helped to reduce the spread of the virus, the Collector told.

The ESI hospital is exclusively dedicated to treat COVID-19 patients. An expert team of doctors and nurses are on duty round-the-clock to treat the patients with care and compassion, noted the Collector.

In Coimbatore, district, 4560 people have been tested and 141 were tested positive for COVID-19 and were admitted to ESI hospital. Out of which 116 have been fully recovered and discharged. Notably, several recovered patients have given their consent to co-operate for plasma treatment to treat other positive patients, the Collector told.

So far, 18 areas have been identified and announced as red alert zone in the district, he added.

The Collector affirmed that with complete lock down in place, the spread of the virus is expected to decline. He insisted that the sole purpose of the lockdown is to contain the virus, hence public should not leave their house during this time. Those violating will be held by the police department, he informed.
