Toxic gas leakage at a residence in HUDCO colony claims one life; two undergo treatment

Coimbatore: A 49-year-old man died after being exposed to toxic gases from a toilet at his home on the wee hours of Monday. His father and brother who suffered asphyxiation due the same issue, are being treated at a private hospital.

Coimbatore: A 49-year-old man died after being exposed to toxic gases from a toilet at his home on the wee hours of Monday. His father and brother who suffered asphyxiation due the same issue, are being treated at a private hospital. 

The incident occurred at the early hours of today, at the housing board quarters at HUDCO colony in Peelamedu, here. Sridhar (72) woke up at 2:30 am to use the rest room. He reportedly collapsed after inhaling toxic gases that had leaked from the toilet. 

As he did not return for a long time, his son Murali (45) went to check on him and found him lying unconscious on the floor. While he rushed into the restroom to help his father, Murali also was reportedly affected by the toxic fumes. .

As both his father and brother did not return back, Balaji (49) went to the restroom and was shocked to find them both lying unconscious. Unaware of the toxic gases leakage in the toilet, Balaji had allegedly stormed into the restroom and was gravely affected by the toxic gas. 

He immediately fell unconscious and succumbed. 

Padamatvathi (55), wife of Sridhar fell suspicious, as all three of them did not return from the restroom. So, she cautiously approached the issue and found all three lying unconscious. She immediately alerted the neighbours who rushed them to Coimbatore Government hospital for treatment. 

Doctors are treating Sridhar and Murali. It is reported that Sridhar is in a critical state.

Upon receiving information regarding the incident, a team of police led by Peelamedu Inspector Jothi are conducting an investigation regarding the case. The body of Balaji who reportedly died on the spot has been sent to post mortem. 

The incident of leakage of toxic gases in a residence had shocked the neighbours.
