Coimbatore: A 30-year-old female elephant was found in an injured state in Chinnakalar in Valparai, on Wednesday. The foresters suspect 'mating injury' and are treating the animal.
Coimbatore: A 30-year-old female elephant was found in an injured state in Chinnakalar in Valparai, on Wednesday. The foresters suspect 'mating injury' and are treating the animal.
Upon information from the public that an elephant in an injured state has been standing for over a day at the same place in Chinnakalar area which comes under Manampalli forest range, the foresters visited the spot and found a female elephant with grievous injuries to its anal area and legs.
According to the forest officials, the adult female elephant could have sustained injuries to its anal area by a male elephant, during a mating incident. As the injuries are severe, Senior Veterinary Doctor Dr. Manoharan has been informed and treatment had commenced in the presence of Valparai Veterinary Doctor Meiarasan and Thangaraj Panneer Selvam.

The elephant was administered antibiotics and painkillers through bananas and other fruits. The foresters informed that the animal will be closely monitored until its wounds are healed.
