Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, an 80-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kondanur Pudhur in Anaikatti, today.
The victim, N Ponnammal was on her way back home from her farm at Kondanur Pudhur when an elephant that was reportedly near the village attacked her. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot and was later moved to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Ponnammal is the wife of Nanjan, the head of the Kondanur forest team. With no toilet facilities available, people in this hamlet are often forced to use open grounds to defecate, which has now made them vulnerable to elephant attacks that prove fatal.
