Coimbatore : The Forest Department has announced that it has extended 'Baralikkadu Ecotourism' to five days per week, this month, owing to a rising demand from nature lovers for a tryst with nature for a day at Baralikkadu.

Baralikkadu is a small tribal village which is situated near Pillur dam. It is known as an undisclosed spot which inspires nature lovers. Ecotourism is organised by the Forest Department here and a large number of tourists visit Baralikkadu for a day's tryst with nature. Tourists usually need to book online and wait for days to get a confirmation for this much sought after 'Eco-tourism Day' which includes boat ride in the Pillur dam water catchment area, tasty food cooked by the tribals, forest treks and a bath in the Bhavani river. Since this was allowed only during weekends, tourists were disappointed with the overflow of pre-bookings for the Eco-tourism day outs. Especially, those who wished for a day with nature at this undisclosed spot during summer vacation were more often disappointed. Considering the demand from nature-lovers, the Forest Department announced this summer that the eco-tourism "day spends" are extended to five days of the week, except Mondays and Fridays.
Karamadi Forest Officer Saravanan opines, "This announcement has brought joy and happiness to those who wish to take a day off from city life and enjoy nature. We are explaining the importance and preservation of nature to those who visit here. The Forest Department is jointly organising this event with the help of local tribes, but the profit from this tourism is spent only for the tribals' welfare," he added.
Nature lovers have reportedly started booking online already, after this announcement from the Forest Department.
