Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has issued notices to 25 government employees in Kavundampalayam for allegedly subletting their government-allotted apartments to private individuals at higher rents.
The government apartment complex in Kavundampalayam has 1,848 houses allotted to government employees based on their salary scales. The apartments are categorised from Type A to Type D, with monthly rents ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 6,850, deducted directly from employees' salaries.
Complaints were received that some employees were renting out their allotted houses to private individuals at higher rates than the official rent. Following these complaints, Housing Board officials have been conducting inspections at the residential complex over the past few days.
During door-to-door inspections, officials found that occupants of 25 houses were different from the government employees to whom the apartments had originally been allotted. Following these findings, notices were issued to the concerned employees, and steps are being taken through the District Collector's office to cancel their allotments.
Housing Board officials said the inspection was initiated following complaints of government employees subletting their allotted houses. They confirmed that 25 houses were found to have been sublet and that the occupants had been instructed to vacate them.
Meanwhile, the Housing Board is also taking steps to vacate government employees residing in its quarters at Race Course and Saravanampatti, as the buildings were constructed several years ago and have reportedly deteriorated.
While several occupants have already vacated the houses, notices have been issued to another 150 occupants who have yet to vacate. Officials said they had been instructed to vacate the buildings immediately due to their age and deteriorating condition.
