Coimbatore: A male foetus, estimated to be six to seven months old, was found amid human waste at a public toilet in Jyothi Nagar C Colony near Pollachi on Saturday, prompting the Pollachi East Police to launch an investigation.
The incident came to light at around 7.30 am when a sanitation worker was called to clear a blockage in the public toilet. The facility had been opened at around 6 am, and more than 30 women were reportedly said to have used the toilet before the blockage was noticed.
While attempting to clear the blockage, the sanitation worker sprayed water into the toilet. The force of the water reportedly dislodged the obstruction.
After the sewage was cleared, the worker noticed the body of a male foetus among the human waste behind the toilet. The foetus was found dead, with its body parts, including the head, arms and legs, reportedly intact.
Sanitation worker Chitra alerted the Pollachi East Police, following which police personnel arrived at the spot, recovered the foetus and sent it to the Government Hospital for further examination.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death.
