Coimbatore: The City Municipal Corporation has organised 264 special medical camps across rain-affected areas of the city over the past eight days, benefiting 15,328 people, according to a press release issued on October 28.
The initiative comes as the Northeast monsoon continues to bring heavy rainfall to Coimbatore, prompting the civic body to intensify its public health outreach to prevent seasonal illnesses.
Of the total beneficiaries, 11,021 people were screened for fever, cough and other symptoms. Blood tests were conducted on 49 people suspected of having fever, and those requiring further treatment were referred to government medical facilities.
Medical teams comprising doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel from the Corporation's 33 urban primary health centres have been conducting the camps since October 23. The initiative aims to identify health concerns early and prevent the spread of monsoon-related illnesses, including fever, diarrhoea, typhoid and jaundice.
Health inspectors also monitored the camps to ensure that medical examinations were conducted safely and hygienically. Corporation health workers have been instructed to continue their preventive measures in areas affected by rainfall.
The special medical camps will continue for another five days, with the Corporation planning to extend the initiative across its jurisdiction through the 33 urban primary health centres. Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, has urged residents to make use of the camps and benefit from the medical services.
