Coimbatore: An Assistant Executive Engineer of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has still not been relieved of his duties, 14 days after a transfer order posted him to Kumbakonam Corporation, prompting activists to raise concerns over the delay.
According to proceedings dated October 12, 2026, issued by Director of Municipal Administration R. Ezhil, the Assistant Executive Engineer at Coimbatore Corporation was transferred to Kumbakonam Corporation against an existing vacancy on administrative grounds under Rule 207 of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Rules, 2023.
The order had instructed the concerned corporation authorities to relieve the Assistant Executive Engineer and furnish details of the proceedings to the Directorate immediately. However, he has reportedly not been relieved from his duties in Coimbatore despite 14 days having elapsed since the order was issued, said RTI activist S. P. Thiyagarajan.
Thiyagarajan also raised concerns over the possibility of attempts to revoke the transfer order. He alleged that allegations are rife of senior officials at the corporation possibly having been provided misleading information regarding the matter.
Activists have urged the Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department and the Director of Municipal Administration to intervene, ensure implementation of the transfer order and examine the reasons for the delay in relieving the officer.
