Coimbatore: A 20-year-old third-year engineering student at Karunya University was found dead in her hostel room on the university campus on October 19, prompting an investigation by Karunya Nagar Police.
The deceased was identified as Aishwariya, a resident of Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, who was pursuing her third year of B.E. at the university. She stayed in a room at the Oprah Ladies' Hostel, which she shared with three other students. Those roommates had reportedly left for their hometowns for the Pooja holidays, while Aishwariya stayed back at the hostel, reportedly due to family-related issues.
According to police reports, she was last seen on the night of October 18. The next day, her mother reportedly made repeated attempts to contact her over the phone but received no response. Unable to reach her daughter, the mother sought assistance from other students staying at the hostel.
When repeated knocks at Aishwariya's room went unanswered, the hostel warden was informed. Upon checking through a window above the door, the student was found hanging inside the room.
Police reportedly recovered a note from the room in which Aishwariya had expressed emotional distress over personal matters and concern for her mother. The note also stated that she had no issues with the college or her friends.
Karunya Nagar Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
