IMD Warns of Very Heavy Rain in Coimbatore, Nilgiris on October 20

Coimbatore: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and Tiruppur districts on Tuesday, October 20, according to the weather bulletin issued on October 17, 2026.

The western districts are expected to experience continued rainfall over the coming days, with heavy rain forecast in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and Erode on October 18. On October 19, Coimbatore and the Nilgiris are among the districts likely to receive heavy rainfall.

The warning intensifies on October 20, when Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and Tiruppur are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. The forecast also covers October 21, with heavy rain expected at isolated places in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris and Tiruppur.

On October 22, heavy rainfall is likely in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tiruppur and Erode. The warning continues on October 23, covering Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Erode, Salem and Tiruppur, along with other districts.

The disaster management authorities have instructed district administrations to follow standard operating procedures and strengthen preparedness measures to address possible rain-related emergencies.
