Coimbatore: With the onset of the northeast monsoon on October 15, Coimbatore city has been receiving good rainfall. Overnight rains on October 15 inundated several parts of the city, particularly low-lying areas, raising concerns over waterlogging and the need for effective rainwater drainage.
Against this backdrop, Coimbatore District Collector Pavan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar, and Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, jointly inspected monsoon preparedness measures on Saturday, October 17, to assess the civic body’s readiness for the northeast monsoon and ensure timely action to prevent rain-related disruptions.
During the inspection, the officials visited a motor pump installed along the main road in the Kallimadai–Nallampalayam area, under Ward 18 of the North Zone. The pump has been installed to facilitate the immediate removal of rainwater and prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
Subsequently, the District Collector inspected a stormwater drain near the old Sathy Road in Ganapathy, under Ward 30, and instructed the concerned officials to take necessary measures to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and prevent blockages.
Corporation Chief Engineer S. Jayaram, Assistant Executive Engineer S. Sathyamoorthy (in-charge), Assistant Engineers and other Corporation officials accompanied the inspection team.
