Coimbatore: Kovai Kutralam Falls has been closed to tourists for Saturday, October 10, after heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats caused a sudden surge in water flow and flash flooding.
The Coimbatore Forest Division announced the one-day closure as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
Heavy rainfall has been reported over the past few days in the Western Ghats and the foothills of the Siruvani region. The continuous rain has increased water flow in the streams leading to the falls, resulting in flash flooding since Friday evening.
Considering the risks to visitors, the forest department has temporarily suspended eco-tourism activities at the falls for October 10. Tourists have been advised not to visit the area until further notice.
