Coimbatore: A woman narrowly escaped a gold chain-snatching attempt by a masked unidentified man while she was drawing a kolam outside her house in the early hours of the morning in Coimbatore, with her quick response forcing the attacker to flee empty-handed. The incident occurred at Sengadu in the Kattoor Road area of Pappanaickenpalayam. Selvaraj, a resident of the locality, lives with his wife Akhilandeshwari, 42. On the day of the incident, Akhilandeshwari had woken up early as usual and was sprinkling water and drawing a kolam in front of her house. At the time, an unidentified man arrived near the house on a two-wheeler. Taking advantage of the early hour and the lack of people on the road, he reportedly stopped his vehicle, approached Akhilandeshwari from behind and suddenly grabbed the gold chain around her neck. However, Akhilandeshwari immediately realised what was happening and held on tightly to her chain with both hands. She raised an alarm, shouting for help, and strongly resisted the snatching attempt. Caught off guard by her resistance and cries for help, the suspect reportedly abandoned his attempt when he was unable to pull away the chain. He then fled the scene on his motorcycle. The woman's quick thinking and courageous resistance helped her retain the gold jewellery, which reportedly amounted to several sovereigns. Following a complaint from Akhilandeshwari, Race Course Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Police are examining CCTV camera footage from the area to identify and trace the unidentified suspect, who allegedly targeted the woman while she was alone outside her house in the early morning.
