Coimbatore Corporation Schools Get 143 New Desks with Benches Under CSR Initiative

Coimbatore: A better-equipped classroom is set to become a reality for hundreds of students in several Corporation schools in Coimbatore, with 143 integrated desks and benches worth ₹20 lakh being provided under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The furniture was provided by Larsen & Toubro Limited, Chennai, through its CSR funds and was handed over to Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, on October 5.

The furniture was handed over at the Idayarpalayam Corporation Primary School in Kuniyamuthur, which falls under Ward 93 of the Corporation’s South Zone.

A total of 143 desks and benches were allocated to six Corporation schools across different zones. Saramedu (Anupperpalayam) Corporation Primary School received 30 desks with benches, while Ramachettipalayam Corporation Primary School received 20. Idayarpalayam Corporation Primary School received 15, while its middle school received 35 desks with benches.

In the East Zone, Nehru Nagar Corporation Middle School received 26 desks with benches, while Pappanaickenpalayam Middle School in the Central Zone received 17.

During the programme, Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja also distributed second-term textbooks to 167 students from Classes 1 to 5, along with books to 24 LKG and UKG students studying in Corporation schools. Students who had demonstrated talents in drawing, Thirukkural recitation and other activities were also presented with prizes and felicitated.

“The initiative is intended to strengthen basic educational infrastructure and provide students with a more convenient classroom environment. The Corporation is continuing various measures to improve educational infrastructure and student welfare in its schools, guided by the principle that the development of education forms the foundation of social progress”, said Corporation Commsssioner.

Officials present at the event included Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Superintending Engineer Selvakumar, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Kanagaraj, Headmistress Suseela and other TWAD Board and Corporation officials.
