Ganja Chocolate Accused Detained Under Goondas Act in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A man arrested for illegally possessing ganja chocolates meant for sale has been detained under the Goondas Act as a drug offender, acting on orders from the Coimbatore District Collector.The case was originally registered at Madukkarai Police Station under Perur Sub-Division, after police found Ravindra Kushwaha, 35, son of Suvendar Kushwaha, in illegal possession of 10.800 kg of ganja chocolates intended for sale.
Kushwaha was arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with the case.Taking note of his involvement in the offence, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy, IPS, recommended that Kushwaha be detained under the Goondas Act. Based on this recommendation, Coimbatore District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanavar, IAS, issued an order detaining Kushwaha under the Act as a drug offender.
The Superintendent of Police has warned that stringent action under the Goondas Act will be initiated against persons indulging in activities detrimental to public order and public health.Members of the public have also been urged to confidentially share information regarding persons involved in such illegal activities through the Nizhal QR code-based public safety platform run by Coimbatore District Police, without revealing their identity.
