GKNM Hospital Marks World Heart Day with Launch of Heart Health Booklet

Coimbatore: Marking World Heart Day on September 29, G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital (GKNMH) organised a heart health awareness programme to highlight the importance of preventive care and healthy lifestyle practices, bringing together medical experts and members of the public for an interactive session on cardiovascular wellness.

The programme was held at the GKNM Integrated Outpatient (IOP) Centre in Coimbatore, with the launch of a Heart Health Awareness Booklet serving as its key highlight.

Dr. R. Sambasivam, Chairman and Senior Consultant – Cardiology at GKNM Hospital, launched the booklet in the presence of the hospital’s team of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons.

Designed for the general public, the booklet addresses frequently asked questions about heart health and provides simple, practical guidance from the hospital’s cardiology experts. The event also featured an interactive session during which doctors answered questions from participants and shared tips on maintaining a healthy heart.

As part of the programme’s focus on a holistic approach to heart care, experts delivered sessions on different aspects of cardiovascular wellness. Dr. Mahesh Mitra, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy at GKNM Hospital, spoke about daily exercise routines for a healthy heart.

Dr. Subramanian Gandhi, Consultant – Alternative Medicine, shared insights into yoga, breathing exercises and mudras for heart wellness, while Ms. Prathiksha, Chief Dietician at GKNM Hospital, discussed daily dietary practices that support heart health.

More than 150 members of the public participated in the programme and benefited from direct interaction with the hospital’s heart care team.
