Police Thwart Self-Immolation Attempt by Man in Front of Coimbatore Collectorate

Tense moments prevailed for a brief period at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Friday morning after a man allegedly attempted to self-immolate himself on the premises, despite the Collectorate remaining closed for the government holiday observed for Krishna Jayanthi.

According to preliminary information, the man arrived at the Collectorate in the morning and attempted to enter the premises before trying to set himself on fire. Alert police personnel deployed on duty at the Collectorate noticed his actions and immediately intervened, thwarting the attempt and preventing him from harming himself.

The police personnel subsequently calmed the man down and enquired about his basic details and whereabouts. He was later taken to the Racecourse police station, where police officials are expected to hear his pleas and conduct further inquiry into the incident.

The incident caused a brief commotion at the Collectorate, particularly as it occurred on a government holiday when the premises were otherwise closed to the public.
