100-Day Forest Cleanup Drive Launched at Navakkarai

EASA College of Engineering and Technology, Young Indians YUVA and the Coimbatore Forest Department launched a 100-day plastic waste cleanup drive in the Navakkarai forest. Volunteers collected 61 bags of plastic waste and discarded bottles on the first day.


Coimbatore:

The Eco Evolve Club of EASA College of Engineering and Technology, Navakkarai, in association with Young Indians (Yi) YUVA and the Madukkarai Forest Range of the Coimbatore Forest Department, launched a 100-day plastic waste and bottle collection drive in the Sengampalam Forest area at Navakkarai on Saturday.

The initiative was inaugurated in the presence of Rajan, Forest Guard, Navakkarai Division, Madukkarai Forest Range, who highlighted the importance of protecting forests and wildlife. He said forests play a vital role in sustaining human life and urged the public to avoid discarding plastic waste and bottles in forest areas, as they pose a serious threat to the ecosystem and wildlife.

Following the inaugural programme, students, faculty members and Forest Department officials undertook a cleanup drive covering the stretch from Cholakkarai Circuit and Chinna Reserve A-Line to the Third AI Tower. During the campaign, volunteers collected 61 bags of plastic waste and discarded bottles from both sides of the route, helping restore the cleanliness of the forest area.

The initiative is being organised under the guidance of T.E. Sujatha, Chairperson of EASA College of Engineering and Technology, T.E. Ajith, Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, and T.E. Aadarsh, Correspondent. The weekly campaign, coordinated by Dr. A.S. Govendan and T. Gunasekaran along with faculty members and student volunteers, will continue every Saturday for the next 100 days.
