Coimbatore Police Invoke Goondas Act Against Five Habitual Offenders

As part of efforts to curb recurring criminal activities and maintain public order, Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Dr N. Kannan has ordered the preventive detention of five habitual offenders under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982 (Goondas Act), citing their repeated involvement in offences.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police, on the orders of Police Commissioner Dr N. Kannan, have detained five habitual offenders under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1982 (Goondas Act) as part of efforts to curb recurring criminal activities and maintain public order.

The detainees have been identified as N. Dharma (32) of Madurai district, arrested in a case registered at Podanur Police Station on June 17, 2026; P. Sivasakthivel (24) of Thoothukudi district, Venkatesh (25) of Theni district and M. Sathy (23) of Kanyakumari district, who were arrested in separate cases by E-2 Singanallur Police Station; and R. Suresh alias “Goondas” Suresh (25) of Ramanagoundenpudur, Thudiyalur, who was arrested in a case registered at Thudiyalur Police Station on June 21, 2026.

According to the police, all five are habitual offenders with multiple criminal cases registered against them. Citing their repeated involvement in criminal activities and the likelihood of their actions disturbing public order, Police Commissioner Dr N. Kannan invoked the provisions of the Goondas Act and ordered their preventive detention.

Following the detention orders, all five were lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison under preventive detention.
