Three Arrested, Over 4 kg of Ganja Seized in Coimbatore’s Ponnaiyarajapuram

As part of its ongoing crackdown on banned tobacco products and narcotics, the Coimbatore City Police arrested three persons at a raid in AKS Nagar in Ponnaiyarajapuram, for possessing ganja for sale. Police seized over 4 kg of ganja, cash and a two-wheeler during the operation.

Coimbatore: Eight persons were arrested in separate operations conducted by the Coimbatore City Police against the illegal sale of ganja and banned tobacco products across different parts of the city.

In a major anti-narcotics operation, three persons were arrested for allegedly possessing ganja for sale during raids conducted near AKS Nagar Park in Ponnaiyarajapuram following a tip-off.

Police arrested Narendra Kumar (25), a native of Rajasthan, and seized 3 kg of ganja along with a two-wheeler from his possession. Lavakush Pathak (25), a native of Uttar Pradesh, was also arrested, and 1 kg of ganja was recovered from him.

Another accused, Surendra Singh (29), was arrested with 100 grams of ganja and ₹4,500 in cash, which police suspect was linked to the illegal trade.

All three accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

In a separate crackdown on the sale of banned tobacco products, police carried out inspections under the jurisdictions of the Ramanathapuram, Singanallur and Peelamedu Police Stations, leading to the arrest of five persons allegedly involved in the sale of prohibited tobacco products, including gutka, Hans, Cool Lip and Vimal, without valid authorisation.

In Ramanathapuram, Ayyappadas (37) was arrested in Periyar Nagar for allegedly selling banned tobacco products. He was later released on bail, and packets of Vimal, chewing tobacco, Hans and Cool Lip were seized from his possession.

Separate raids in the SMS Layout and Uppilipalayam Junction areas under the Singanallur Police Station limits resulted in the arrest of Pushpalatha (53), Balasundaram (57) and Oor Kavalamuthu alias Muthukkutty (30). Police seized banned pan masala and Hans products from them.

In another operation, the Peelamedu Police arrested Arun Raj (28) for allegedly stocking and selling banned tobacco products behind a bakery in Chinniyampalayam. He was remanded to judicial custody, and police seized a large quantity of Hans, Cool Lip and Vimal packets from his possession.
