Yi’s Thalir Hosts Young Indians Parliament 3.0 for School Students in Coimbatore

Yi Thalir, the school engagement initiative of CII Young Indians, organised the Young Indians Parliament 3.0 at Kumaraguru Institutions in Coimbatore to promote constitutional values, democratic awareness, civic responsibility and leadership among school students.

Coimbatore: As part of Yi Thalir, the school engagement initiative of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Young Indians (Yi), aimed at nurturing responsible, inclusive and socially conscious citizens through experiential learning, Young Indians Parliament 3.0 was inaugurated at Kumaraguru Institutions in Coimbatore on Friday.

The two-day programme, jointly organised by CII Young Indians (Yi), the Kumaraguru Centre for Public and Competitive Examination, and the Department of Political Science, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, seeks to foster democratic values, constitutional awareness, civic responsibility and leadership among school students through an immersive simulation of parliamentary proceedings.

The programme has brought together 109 student delegates from 14 schools across Coimbatore and neighbouring districts. Participants will assume the roles of Members of Parliament, engaging in legislative debates, deliberations on Bills, policy formulation exercises and discussions modelled on the functioning of the Indian Parliament.

The event was inaugurated by Coimbatore District Collector Pawan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, who described Parliament as one of the strongest pillars of India’s constitutional democracy. Calling upon students to emerge as responsible leaders, he stressed the importance of attentive listening, patience, empathy and respect for diverse perspectives.

“A people’s representative carries the responsibility of reflecting the aspirations and concerns of society. The hallmark of an effective leader is not merely the ability to speak, but the willingness to listen with sincerity. India’s greatest strength lies in its diversity, and future leaders must learn to embrace differing viewpoints with respect and understanding,” the Collector said.

Delivering the welcome address, Rahul Kamath, Chairman of the Young Indians Coimbatore Chapter, highlighted the growing influence of today’s youth in the era of social media and artificial intelligence.

“A single social media post, video, or opinion today has the power to reach millions. Such influence must be exercised responsibly. Leadership is not about being the loudest voice, but about communicating with thoughtfulness, making informed decisions, and understanding perspectives different from one’s own,” he said.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s exhortation, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached,” he urged students to recognise their role in shaping India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

The top 15 participants from the Coimbatore chapter will qualify for the regional round, with successful finalists earning the opportunity to compete at the National Young Indians Parliament in New Delhi.

The valedictory ceremony, to be held on Saturday, will be attended by Coimbatore Member of Parliament Dr. Ganapathy Rajkumar as the chief guest.

Designed to provide students with firsthand exposure to parliamentary procedures, governance and democratic institutions, Young Indians Parliament 3.0 serves as a platform to cultivate critical thinking, informed discourse, responsible citizenship and ethical leadership among the nation's future changemakers.
