Thondamuthur MLA SP Velumani demands ₹1 crore compensation for the victim's family and strictest punishment for perpetrators.

Coimbatore: A heinous crime has shocked Coimbatore district as a 10-year-old girl from the Sulur, Pallapalayam, and Bharathipuram area was abducted, sexually assaulted, murdered, and her body dumped in bushes. The incident occurred on the evening of May 21, 2026, when anti-social elements kidnapped the child on a two-wheeler, leaving the community in deep shock and anguish.

Thondamuthur MLA SP Velumani expressed grave concern over the incident and demanded immediate action from the state government. In a strongly worded statement, he highlighted that such crimes had increased significantly during the previous DMK administration, leading to widespread public outrage. He attributed the rise in social crimes to the proliferation of drug culture during that period.

"Even though the government has changed, the situation remains unchanged, as this current incident proves," stated Velumani. He emphasized the need to verify whether the persons arrested by the police are indeed the actual perpetrators of this horrific crime.

The MLA called for swift identification of such social criminals by the police and urged that they be given the maximum punishment possible under the law. He stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of women and girl children to alleviate the fear that has gripped the public.

Velumani appealed to the newly appointed Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Joseph Vijay to take war-footing security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. He specifically demanded complete eradication of drug trafficking and circulation in the state.

Furthermore, the MLA insisted that the victim's family should receive speedy justice and be provided with ₹1 crore as compensation from the state government. He emphasized that such support is necessary to help the grieving family cope with their devastating loss.

The police have made arrests in connection with the case, though verification of the accused as actual perpetrators remains under investigation. The community continues to demand transparency in the investigation and swift justice for the murdered child.
