Pumpset Prices to Increase Up to 10 Percent from April Due to Raw Material Cost Hike, Announces SEEMA

Coimbatore: The South India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SEEMA) has announced that pumpset prices will be increased by 7.5 to 10 percent starting from April 2025, citing continuous escalation in raw material costs.

This marks the second price hike within six months, as pumpset prices were previously increased by 10 percent in October 2024 due to similar pressures from rising raw material costs. The industry body stated that the situation has not stabilized, necessitating another price adjustment.

Speaking about the development, SEEMA President Mithun Ramadas said that while global instability exists due to the Iran-Israel conflict affecting various countries, India has not been significantly impacted. He praised the measures taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

However, Ramadas highlighted that the raw material price crisis continues to create pressure on the manufacturing sector despite various support measures provided by the Central Government to help industries navigate the current challenging circumstances.

The most significant concern for pumpset manufacturers has been the dramatic surge in copper prices. Over the past year, copper costs have skyrocketed by 50 percent, rising from Rs 850 per kilogram to Rs 1,200 per kilogram. Similarly, prices of other essential raw materials including steel and aluminum have also been climbing steadily.

"The industry was compelled to increase pumpset prices by 10 percent in October 2024 to counter the crisis. Since the problem persists without resolution, we are now forced to implement another price increase ranging from 7.5 to 10 percent from April," Ramadas explained.

The SEEMA President urged the Central Government to take immediate action considering the growth prospects of the pumpset manufacturing industry. He specifically requested intervention to address the raw material cost escalation problem and called for a reduction in GST rates from the current 12 percent to 5 percent to provide relief to both manufacturers and end consumers.

The pumpset industry, which is crucial for agricultural activities across the country, has been grappling with cost pressures that threaten its competitiveness and sustainability in both domestic and international markets.
