AIADMK to Hold Protest Against DMK Government on July 23 in Coimbatore

AIADMK announces a massive protest in Coimbatore on July 23 against the DMK government's electricity tariff hike and potential reduction of ration items. MLA PRG Arun Kumar calls for widespread participation.


Coimbatore: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is set to hold a massive protest against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government on July 23 in Coimbatore. The announcement was made by PRG Arun Kumar, MLA of Kavundampalayam constituency, in a statement released on July 20.

The protest, scheduled for 10 AM on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, will take place in front of the Mettupalayam Bus Stand. It aims to condemn the DMK government for increasing electricity tariffs for the third time in the past three years and for allegedly attempting to discontinue the distribution of dhal and palm oil in ration shops.

Arun Kumar stated that the demonstration is being organized under the directive of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. He called for widespread participation from various AIADMK-affiliated organizations and the general public.

The MLA has urged participation from AIADMK's North Coimbatore district office bearers, current and former MPs and MLAs, and members of various wings of the party. These include the MGR Mandram, Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Peravai, MGR Youth Wing, Women's Wing, Students' Wing, Anna Trade Union, Advocates' Wing, Minority Welfare Wing, Agriculture Wing, Fishermen's Wing, Medical Wing, Literary Wing, Unorganized Drivers' Wing, Youth and Young Women's Front, Trade Wing, and IT Wing.

Additionally, representatives from district, union, area, town, municipality, panchayat, ward, and branch levels of the party, as well as cooperative societies and local body representatives, have been asked to participate in large numbers. Arun Kumar emphasized that party cadres, activists, and the general public should join the protest in large numbers to make it a success.
